TOPOGRAPHICAL SHIFTS AT THE URBAN WATERFRONT
Winner, Rising Tides Competition. This project explores sea level rise as an opportunity for a new diverse ecological and cultural edge along San Francisco’s industrial waterfront. Proposal infuses a green infrastructure system that extends through San Francisco from the industrial bay all the way to the top of the original watersheds and residential neighborhoods. The primary system occurs along the original watersheds and creek system, moving from the tidal marsh, a natural buffer of sea level rise to grasslands and upland forest, proposing all future development at higher elevations. This flexible system allows for natural migration of tidal wetlands as sea level rises, protecting the existing residential developments from increased flooding.
