J. Lee Stickles is the founder of TS Studio. Stickles, an urban designer and landscape architect with 17 years of professional experience, has managed the design and construction of numerous local and international projects. Her work ranges from parks, playgrounds and public waterfronts, to on-structure roof gardens and mixed-use retail, residential and corporate projects. Stickles' work focuses on the intersection of research and design, believing that knowledge of our existing environment inspires thoughtful design solutions that can be absorbed and reflected by our local culture. She believes that communication and a shared vision with clients and the design team is fundamental to a project’s success. In 2009, she was one of the winners of Rising Tides, an international design competition examining sea level rise within San Francisco Bay and beyond. She received her undergraduate degree in Landscape Architecture from Penn State University, and her graduate degree in Urban Design from Harvard.

CREATE Campus - University of Singapore

As part of the new University Town project, 1.95-hectare CREATE Campus is designed to be buildings set in a larger ecological context. The surrounding forest extends into the heart of the town center with vertical and roof gardens that transform a humid and hot environment into a lush oasis. 680 FOLSOM

680 Folsom, an urban retrofit, transforms an existing aging commercial building into a new translucent facade. Landscape services include a new on-structure public plaza and entrance, sculptural garden and green roofs. An aging stone wall once formed a barrier between the existing building and sidewalk, while the proposed landscape forms a new accessible urban entrance. Redesign efforts included a sculpted steel planter wall that carves in and around the building, forming a seamless integration of architecture and landscape to urban context. 680 Folsom is pursuing LEED Gold Accreditation for reuse of an existing office building with a new façade. JINAO TOWER, Hexi District

The mixed use development incorporates retail, office, hotel and residential uses integrated into a new subway station. Elevated roof gardens, urban plazas, horizontal canopies and glazed water panels are employed to form a series of memorable urban spaces. J. Jack London Square - Palm Plaza & Heinhold's Wood Deck

Sunnydale

Sunnydale is a recipient of the HOPE SF funding efforts, is on-going planning and urban design efforts to revitalize this neighborhood. The revitalization plan transforms this neighborhood, integrating it into the San Francisco Street grid, and providing 1000 affordable rental units and 700 affordable and market rate homes. More than 10% of Sunnydale will be devoted to park spaces, organic farms, and a pervious street system cleansing run-off through bioswales and a rainwater cistern. J. ALAMEDA LANDING

Project proposes the transformation of a post industrial site into a sustainable mixed use urban waterfront that preserves the industrial character, and infuses the site with a mix of culture and ecology. Existing warehouse are converted into temporary event spaces and parking, abandoned piers are converted into wetlands, and the waterfront is infused with diverse recreational activities. J. MENLO SCHOOL PLAYGROUND

Menlo school playground and ball wall is about innovation and children developing their own games and skills. The playground is part of a two-story gymnasium that abuts the edge of Menlo Middle School and the residential district of Atherton, California. J. BEIJING FINANCE STREET

J. Lee was designer and project manager for this project while at SWA Group. Located in Beijing, China, F1 and F2 are two blocks of the master plan for Beijing Finance Street. A series of intimate courtyards, the plaza integrates pedestrian corridors, auto circulation and park space within the context of the larger urban design and architecture. SYBASE HEADQUARTERS

Site design includes open space amenities for a 420,000-square-foot corporate facility. Located at a busy intersection, the landscape design connects to the street through a large plaza. Forested berms, and a 15’ tall vertical fountain provide a sense of entry and privacy. Bioswales provide runoff treatment within the parking areas connecting to the office building. J. Full landscape architectural services for a site plan situating the development at the southeast corner of the 20-acre Superfund site to allow for a greatly increased landscape area (45% of the site) as well as for an increase in F.A.R. under the City’s Transit Oriented Development Guidelines. An inactive plaza in Pittsburgh, PA is transformed through incorporating programmatic elements into an existing on-structure plaza.
