Foot of Broadway Tidal Green
Extending from the heart of downtown Oakland, the Foot of Broadway Tidal green is a proposed landscape intervention at the waterfront edge. This edge is a passive shoreline that engages the waterfront through an existing underutilized stepped amphitheater. Design intervention transforms a hard, riprap shoreline into one of greater ecological and cultural value. Phase I, completed in 2012, added over 60 linear feet of custom wood benches, providing comfortable seating and a view to the San Francisco Bay. Phase 2 is conceptual in nature - proposing tidal wetlands that will transform this area into one that embraces the regional ecology and attracts wildlife diversity. Foot of Broadway Tidal Green has the potential to be a precedent for transforming Oakland into a city that embraces ecological diversity in one of the most cultural diverse neighborhoods in the bay area.
